When you are new to padel, a repeatable shot is usually more useful than trying to finish every rally. Use these ten reminders for your next session.
1. Hitting every ball hard
Try controlled swings and aim for a safe target. Add pace only when contact is consistent.
2. Taking a large backswing
Prepare early and keep your swing compact, especially close to the net.
3. Standing still after a shot
Recover to a useful position with your partner and be ready for the next ball.
4. Moving independently of your partner
Discuss your positions and move together to reduce gaps.
5. Avoiding the glass
Practise gentle feeds that bounce before reaching the back glass. Watch the rebound and learn its timing.
6. Rushing to the net
Approach behind a suitable shot and move with your partner. Pause into a balanced ready position as the opponent hits.
7. Smashing every overhead
Use a controlled overhead when that keeps your position. Power is only one option.
8. Aiming too close to the lines
Choose larger targets while building consistency. Notice how much space you have above the net.
9. Forgetting to communicate
Call for shared balls early and encourage your partner. Agree who covers the middle.
10. Choosing equipment only by a professional’s name
Check how the racket handles for you. A professional player’s model can be demanding even if it is popular.
A simple practice session
Spend a few minutes on gentle rallies, serve and return, then a basic glass rebound. Ask a coach to adapt the drills to your level.
